Success! Next up: Conservatives
First, let me thank all of you who helped with our Republican petition drive. Our goal was to double the 1,250 signatures legally required to get Frank on the ballot, and I am pleased to report that we exceeded that goal, submitting 2,537 signatures. This is a significant achievement, especially given how many people wanted to carry petitions for Frank but did not, having faced intimidation by the machine that propped up Frank's opponent.
Let us hope that our efforts help bring a new day in Nassau County where reverence for free speech and for democracy make it unthinkable that party leaders would use government jobs funded by your tax dollars as an instrument of fear.
Speaking of which, Conservative Party members, we need your help. There are approximately 5,100 of you in the 4th Congressional District. We need you to go out and get several hundred petition signatures to authorize a Conservative Party primary on June 24. Frank won a historic write-in victory in 2012. He can do it again -- if we have your help over the next few days.
Tragically, the Conservative Party leadership is controlled (through jobs in local government) by the boss of the county GOP machine, who picked the county legislator who presided over Nassau County's financial meltdown during the 1990's as the Conservative Party candidate. If we do not collect enough signatures, Conservative voters will be denied a primary election. As Newsday reported (CLICK HERE FOR STORY) a GOP machine executive leader sent a memo to other GOP leaders attaching the names of Conservative Party voters who signed Frank's petitions in 2012 and outlining a cynical plan: "Since we have an exclusive window to obtain these signatures (Frank CANNOT until March 25th), ... we can take his signatures. This will make it extremely difficult for him to obtain the necessary amount." That another party's leaders would go so far to close the primary doors to Conservative voters is appalling. It shows their contempt for the democratic process--not to mention their fear that Frank, who was nominated by a write-in vote of Conservative voters in 2012, will win again.
Now is the time to fight back. If you are a Conservative voter or a notary public, please help circulate petitions over the next few days. We are collecting signatures through this Wednesday, April 16. YOU CAN DOWNLOAD AND PRINT THE PETITION HERE. Call our campaign headquarters at (516) 515-1102 for a list of voters who can sign. If you cannot circulate a petition, please volunteer to help those who can.
Conservatives deserve the right to vote for their own nominee. As Sen. Orrin Hatch recently said, Frank "has brains and guts." He is the only true conservative in this race, a man whose honesty makes him a threat to the party bosses who have repeatedly betrayed our trust. Together we will meet this latest challenge. We will do it in the name of democracy.
Thank you very much for your help!
