Tax Day

Our federal tax code is well over 3 million words long - a testament to the influence of special interests.  And our corporate tax rate is now the highest in the industrialized world.

We need real, fundamental change.

That means not just lowering taxes, but replacing our convoluted tax code with a simpler system.  And change means not just lowering spending, but reforming a broken spending process from top to bottom, with caps on spending and debt so that we don’t follow the example of Europe with a debt larger than our economy.

We are hurt that much more in New York because of the exorbitant cost of living with our state and local tax burden.  According to the Tax Foundation, New York’s Tax Freedom Day does not occur until May 4th – almost a full two weeks later than the national average date of April 21.

Our public officials have lost their way when they fail to understand that government is supposed to work for the people - not the other way around.  Oppressive taxes force people to work for the government rather than for their families.  Calvin Coolidge said it well when he said he favored fiscal responsibility “not because I wish to save money, but because I wish to save people.”

I would say to all who fear that the American dream is slipping away: Many generations before us faced great challenges, and our country always came out on top.  Recovering the American dream is the challenge of our generation.  We are here to answer the call, and to make our voices heard.
